Competition Gymsports
Gymnastics is one of the most beautiful and dynamic sports in the world. Gymnastics is an “all-body” as well as an “all-mind” sport providing children and adults with both physical and psychological benefits.
Did you know that gymnastics develops 26 multiple intelligences in children? The benefits are tremendous. It’s an “all body” sport that develops muscle memory, strength, flexibility, kinesthetic and haptic awareness, depth perception, socialization, discipline, organization, prioritization, internal motivation, respect, and the list goes on. From an early age, kids can learn the value of doing a “job” and a sense of duty.
Not only is Gymnastics an exciting and beautiful sport to be involved in but it is also considered the foundation of all sports.
Gymnastics can significantly develop the learning of the ABC’s of physical activity – Agility, Balance, Coordination, and Speed and assist in the development of physical literacy.
The Competitive Gymnastics Program at TTGG
Competitions are a great opportunity for children to challenge themselves, meet other athletes and have lots of fun. We encourage everyone who is interested in competing to have a go!
The competitive squads are approximately up to ten gymnasts per group. The coaching staff provides the optimal learning environment for the gymnasts.
The gymnasts in the Competitive Program progress through a systematic developmental pathway that focuses on the advancement of foundation skills, strength, and flexibility. The Program provides a solid base from which gymnasts can build for the future.
Woman's Artistic Gymnastics:
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) is the perfect sport to teach your daughter co-ordination and confidence, develop creativity and contribute to their general health and fitness. WAG is our competitive strain of gymnastics for female Gymnasts beginning at Level 1 (minimum age 5yrs) and can progress all the way through to Level 10.
The four competitive apparatus in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics are:
The Uneven Bars
The uneven bars are one of the most spectacular apparatus of the competition. The gymnast moves from one bar to the other, alternating grip changes, releases, regrasps, saltos and changes of direction with circular swings.
Handguards and chalk are often used on the bar to protect gymnast’s hands from ‘rips’ or blisters caused by friction.
Beam
The beam is 10cm wide, 1.25 metres high, and 5 metres long. A routine on the beam should show an artistic combination of acrobatic skills, gymnastic leaps, jumps, turns, step and running combinations, waves and balance elements in standing, sitting and lying positions. The gymnast is trained to use the entire length of the beam, demonstrating elegance, flexibility, rhythm, balance, confidence and control. The beam routine can last up to 1minute 30seconds.
Vault
Vaulting shows off the gymnast’s athletic qualities, as the movement is performed after a run-up of about 20 meters.
The vault is a “table” which is padded and slightly springy The run up to the vault is very important to help the gymnast generate the lift and height they need to perform the skill. The height, length and execution of the skill are judged, together with the controlled landing – any hops, steps or falls will lose the gymnast valuable points.
Floor
This exercise is the public’s favourite and they are ready to clap as soon as the music begins. Many gymnasts will tell you that they have had their greatest ovations when performing floor exercises to music.
The floor measures 12 metres by 12 metres, with an additional safety border of 1 metre. Female gymnasts perform a choreographed routine up to 90 seconds long to a piece of music which does not typically include vocals. Their routines must include tumbling, jumps, dance movements, acrobatic skills and turns and use the whole of the floor area. The floor is the area where a gymnast can fully express all her grace, her personality, and her technique, combining acrobatics, gymnastics, and dance.
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics:
- Builds strength and prepares the body for the challenges in life
- Enhances co-ordination and agility, allowing the body to move like lightning
- Develops posture and confident body movement, including the ability to land safely
- Challenges the mind and body to reach new goals
- Develops healthy minds and bodies for now and later life

Let him experience Men’s Gymnastics and watch him develop into a strong, confident, and happy young man! With loads of physical activity, balanced with fun and excitement, Men’s Artistic Gymnastics has something to keep every lad challenged.
The apparatus are:
Floor
The floor exercise training includes movements that demonstrate strength, flexibility and balance. Each routine combines moves such as somersaults, twists and leaps. Gymnasts are trained to use the whole floor area and the routines are designed to have a personal touch of expression and execution.
Pommel Horse
Routines on this apparatus are characterised by circular movements of the body with legs together (circles) and pendulous swings with the legs separated (scissors). Gymnasts are trained to show a spectacular combination of these skills called flairs. Throughout the routine the gymnast performs smooth combinations, turning and travelling along the horse. Training is designed to utilise all parts of the horse, while maintaining an extended body line and straight legs.
Rings
Rings are performed in men’s artistic gymnastics and require extreme upper body strength. Gymnasts typically wear ring grips whilst performing. The cables are not tight, and the gymnast are trained to control the movement of the rings while performing the routine. An exercise on rings contain a mixture of swing, strength and hold elements. The gymnast’s dismount allows him to show his aerial abilities prior to landing.
Vault
The gymnasts during their twenty-five-meter approach to the vault develops the necessary power to complete all their aerial skills before landing. Upon take-off from the board, the gymnast explosively propels himself upwards, dynamically pushing off the table to generate greater height and distance in the second phase of flight. This enables a higher level of acrobatic skill and extension to be performed prior to a stable landing.
Parallel Bars
The gymnast performs a series of swings, strength or hold skills, releases and a dismount that requires great strength and coordination. Swings are completed above and below the bars and consist of acrobatic flight elements, changes of direction and swing types. The gymnast’s routine ends in a dramatic dismount off the side or the end of the bars.
High/ Horizontal Bar
This is a very spectacular apparatus, largely due to the acrobatic releases and re-grasp flight elements. The routine is based on swinging parts without stops, and includes extended forward and backward giant swings, combined with near bar elements, changes of direction and grip, as well as the release and re-grasp movements. The high dismounts from the bar allows the gymnast to show his acrobatic talents and landing prowess.
Trampoline Gymsports:
The events are comprised of: trampoline, double mini trampoline, and synchronised trampoline.
Trampoline Gymnastics is the perfect sport to teach your child safe and developmentally sound aerial skills, whilst also developing co-ordination and body awareness.
Trampoline Gymnastics:
- Develops confident body movement, both on and off the ground
- Builds strength and prepares the body for challenges in life
- Challenges the mind and body to reach new goals
- Develops posture and agility, including the ability to land safely
- Is conducted in safely equipped environments with accredited coaches
Combining athleticism and grace, competitive trampolining has been steadily gaining international recognition over recent years and is now an Olympic sport. Trampolining competitions feature highly skilled athletes performing incredible acrobatic feats.
Routines are made up of 10 skills which can land on their feet, fronts, backs or seat and must not contain any additional jumps in between. Some commonplace skills are those containing multiple somersaults along with one and a half twists and two and a half twists.
