KinderGym and PreGym

Our KinderGym sessions provide a safe and stimulating environment where children and their parents or caregivers can creatively explore the equipment and be challenged by the wide range of physical activities.

We believe children in these sessions learn by meeting these challenges and by observing and following other children of mixed ages and abilities at play. Parents/Carers are a play-mate, a role model and a source of ideas and encouragement. It is important to participate at all stages of the session with your child.

Sensory activities at KinderGym encourage exploration and investigation, gives young children a chance to begin to process information, and allows them to explore new sensations in a fun and safe environment. Sensory play aids in the development of motor skills, social skills, language and communication skills and cognitive and brain development. It can also help to calm anxiety and frustration.

Baby KinderGym (age 6 mths – under 2 years)

Our baby sessions are designed to introduce both the child and the parent/ carer to our KinderGym environment. It is a gentle and unhurried session where very young children can explore without competition from older children and can develop their physical, cognitive and social skills.

Our baby sessions include a warm up with our parachute, free play on our amazing equipment followed by group time, which incorporates a focus on sensory play.

As KinderGym is a movement based program we recommend waiting until children are mobile- at least crawling before attending.

General KinderGym (6 months – 5 years)

Our General KinderGym sessions provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can explore the equipment and be challenged by the wide range of physical activities we offer. Children are encouraged to participate in many types of movement including climbing, jumping, swinging, hanging, balancing and sliding while playing and making their way around the gym, utilising the equipment that is specifically set up with inbuilt challenges. These sessions offer a fantastic opportunity for children to develop awareness of their body and where it is as it moves, and to develop their physical and social skills.

Our general sessions start with a short warm up with our parachute followed by free play on all of our equipment including trampolines, foam pit, beams, bars, mats, sprung floor as well as a large range of KinderGym specific equipment. Our set up of equipment changes fortnightly.

We end our sessions with group time activities that incorporate movement to music activities.

Junior PreGym (aged 3 years)

Our Junior PreGym sessions are 45 minute classes for children aged 3 who are ready for a little more structure out of their KinderGym experience or 4 year olds who would like to have their parent or carer in the gym with them. Children must have turned 3 years before starting our Junior PreGym class.

During our Junior PreGym classes, we introduce the children to our Gymnastics apparatus, teach them basic gymnastics skills and shapes that are age and stage appropriate. The class involves direction and following instruction while learning in a fun, safe environment.

It is important that children learn these skills in a safe, controlled environment with accredited coaches and their caregiver to reduce the risk of injury. We understand that young children often want to try different skills that they may have seen others doing however due to their age and muscle development they may not be physically ready to attempt these skills and in doing so may increase the risk of injury.

Recent previous attendance at Tea Tree Gully KinderGym is highly recommended before enrolling in a Junior PreGym class. Our facility is much larger than most other KinderGyms with a lot of gymnastics equipment and we have found that children adapt to the structured format much easier when they are already familiar with the equipment and the environment.

A parent / carer stays with the child at all times to offer hands on assistance when required.

We take new enrolments in our Junior Pre-Gym Classes up until Week 6 of the term.

TTG KinderGym Explorers (aged 1-5)

At Tea Tree Gully KinderGym we want everyone to be able to enjoy their time with us.

With that in mind, we have launched a new program “KinderGym Explorers” that is aimed at creating a calm, comfortable environment for all.

This class is a smaller, shorter, quieter session for children aged 1 to 5 years who may have developmental delays or sensory challenges, or for those children who find that an hour session is just a little too long for them. This class is also suitable for caregivers who find our large Gym environment with a big group of people a little too overwhelming.

It is a session where children can explore the gym and their own abilities in a supportive environment at their own pace. The lighting is reduced and the volume of our music lower. Whilst we still have some group time components these are shortened.

We welcome any support workers or therapists to attend alongside the caregiver and child. Our aim is for children and their caregivers to leave the session feeling confident, empowered, and excited to continue exploring their abilities.

PreGym (age 4-5 years)

Before enrolling in a PreGym class children must have completed a recent term of either a Junior PreGym class or a General KinderGym class at Tea Tree Gully KinderGym. This is so children can become familiar with the equipment and the environment before attending a session without their caregiver being in the gym with them.

Our PreGym class is a structured Gymnastics class where children are introduced to basic Gymnastics skills including shapes, jumping, landings, and tumbling.

During the session, our coaches teach basic gymnastics skills that help develop strength and coordination in a fun, structured environment. Children learn and develop around 15 skills each term as well as learning to listen, take instructions and work more independently. These skills give children a great “head start” for many other activities that they may go into as they get older including dance, soccer, football and of course gymnastics!

It is important that children learn these skills in a safe, controlled environment with accredited coaches to reduce the risk of injury. We understand that young children often want to try different skills that they may have seen others doing however due to their age and muscle development they may not be physically ready to attempt these skills and in doing so may increase the risk of injury.

Parents or carers do not come into the gym with their child during their PreGym class however they are required to be accessible to their child at all times by waiting in our foyer area.

For those children who prefer to have their parent with them in the Gym our Junior PreGym class may be more suitable.

Enrolled PreGym children will need to be able to participate in the session and follow their coaches instructions without causing disruption to the class; this is for their safety and the safety of other attending children. If an attending child is struggling to concentrate without disrupting others then it may be recommended by a coach to move to a Junior PreGym class.

We take new enrolments in our Pre-Gym Classes up until Week 6 of the term.

KinderGym, Junior PreGym and PreGym are all fantastic pathways leading to our other Gymsports including Gym for all, Tumbling Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics, Women’s and Men’s Gymnastics. Please speak to your KinderGym leader or our member service team for more information on any of these sports.
